We use the booklet as a resource we provide to clients for the historical and systemic underpinnings behind the use of Land Acknowledgements. To demonstrate that it is not a performative recitation, but the first step in guidance. We use it in conjunction w/ the “way forward” in the Illuminative Tool Kit Land Acknowledgement to provide guidance on activities our clients can use to embody the way forward; restorative justice; and repairing harm.
— Chipo Nyambuya, Esq

This booklet offers a beautiful presentation of some of the key historical points that are often overlooked. It is particularly important as the world is grappling with the impact of the residential schools/ boarding schools in the US and Canada. We connect land theft, religious violence, cultural assimilation, and the boarding schools themselves with the continued legacies of colonization.
